GROCERY STORES:

There is a small market in Tahoe Donner near the Lodge and the Trout Creek Recreation Center (turn left on Northwoods to go around the north side of the loop, and watch for the Z-Market on the right)

Safeway is at the corner of Donner Pass Rd and Hwy 89-S (take Northwoods down the hill, turn left on Donner Pass Rd, turn left at the next traffic light).

SaveMart/Lucky/Albertsons is off Hwy 89-S on the south side of I-80 (follow directions to Safeway and turn right at the light at Hwy 89-S; cross under I-80 and turn right onto Deerfield drive and left into SaveMart shopping center).

Raleys and Grocery Outlet each just opened in Truckee.

GREAT MORNING OPTIONS:

Coffeebar is on the south side of Donner Pass Rd between Northwoods and exits/overpass of I-80.

Wild Cherries coffee shop is on the south side of Donner Pass Rd between Northwoods and the Hwy 89-S intersection.

Truckee Bagel Company is on Deerfield Dr, a block beyond SaveMart/Lucky/Albertsons.

Wagon Train is in downtown historic Truckee.

TAHOE DONNER DINING: There are several neighborhood restaurants. In a beautiful wooded setting at the Golf Course, The Lodge and outdoor Pavilion offer a classic bistro-style menu with French and Pacific Rim influences, nightly specials and entrées. The Alder Creek Adventure Center offers lunch and a nice bar, and has a terrific Edi-Bowl series on Thursday nights. Pizza On The Hill has great pizza & seasonal ingredients, and is family- and dog-friendly and overlooks a pretty meadow. The Z-Market near the Lodge makes very good deli sandwiches.

TRUCKEE DINING: The town of Truckee has a number of terrific restaurants (be warned: weekend nights during ski season are very busy and require reservations --- often days before). Our favorites are:

Cottonwoods at Hilltop Lodge overlooking Truckee just south of town

Pacific Crest Grill at the Bar of America at 10042 Donner Pass Rd (corner with Bridge St); (530) 587-2626.

Pianeta Ristorante - Italian cuisine in downtown Truckee at 10096 Donner Pass Rd; (530) 587-4694.

RMU Carriage House - (mostly outdoor) food, bevs and live music

Golden Rotisserie - take-out rotisserie chicken and taco fixins'
